Garrett Wilkinson – :
A friend gave me a bootleg tape of this show some twenty years ago. That tape wore out long ago but this is my favorite JF piece and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Del Mar Richardson – :
Opening with Judith Owen’s soulful, orgiastic, whimsical hum and scat of “Take It All, Baby,” an hypnotic loop of sensational feel-good sound, Joe, leads you through the lucid visual maze from success to impending failure, as a psychotically optimistic businessman with absurd money making schemes. Told in visceral detail, his clever use of scientific technical jargon, make the schemes seem plausible. From a ski resort in the Sahara Desert to teleportation, he utilizes your mind as a cinematic theater screen. Hilarious ventures that haplessly take unexpected turns toward unexpected consequences, make it an uplifting listen! His downplay of tragic consequences open vulnerabilities accessible by many who may feel they’re going nowhere in life, a pause to stop and laugh at ourselves. Justifying his failures, he invents precarious streams of inspirational platitudes which are indeed inspiring. Joe’s style puts you in his shoes, not only to recognize the virtues of self-determination, but that success is equally as important as failure, if not, existential. Very entertaining. Highly recommended.
